Multidisciplinary in nature, this physical medicine treats illnesses which lead to physical or neurological deficits. Primarily involving physiotherapists and occupational therapists, it often calls on other specialists, in particular neurologists, depending on the pathology suffered by the patient.
In order to better appreciate the functional consequences of the disorder, a complete examination is conducted. It is based on the patient’s clinical status and on additional tests, as well as on sophisticated techniques used for recording movements and altered functions.
Medication, rehabilitation and the use of orthotics and prosthetics help to recover deficits while preventing their aggravation. Care may be administered during short or prolonged hospitalization, or in an ambulatory setting with regular evaluations and follow-up consultations.
