From the CEO - La Prairie will always be La Prairie!

The future looks bright for Clinique La Prairie as we continue to build on our success. The management team has changed, but the spirit of the clinic is the same. Our approach and our philosophy remain rooted in the fine art of quality aging.

CLP Scientific Advisory Board - Eminent researchers at work on CLP Extract

Clinique La Prairie has been carrying out fundamental and applied research on the famous CLP Extract for almost a quarter of a century, at first via an international research institute and more recently through CLP’s Scientific Advisory Board.

Dermatology at Clinique La Prairie - NEW: Skin cancer screening and treatment

As with most cancers, early detection of skin cancer is extremely important. At Clinique La Prairie, we now offer skin cancer screening at dermatology consultations, as part of your check-up, or by appointment.

History of Clinique La Prairie (2) - A time of growth and expansion

Clinique La Prairie is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year. Our clinic has come a long way in eight decades: from the first injection of young animal cells in a human body in 1931 by Dr. Paul Niehans to today’s CLP Extract. In the previous issue of Inside (No. 48 – Spring 2010), you read about the pioneers of this inspiring achievement for both medicine and humankind.
We pick up the story in 1976, when Armin Mattli bought the clinic. “His” clinic grew rapidly, making extraordinary progress in the field of cellulotherapy – all the way to today’s CLP Extract.

Radiology at Clinique La Prairie - Using MRI to care for your heart

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology has made considerable progress in the past ten years. It is now one of the most advanced methods to diagnose and monitor cardiovascular anomalies and pathologies. Cardiologist Dr. Andreas Wahl uses this technology to treat his patients at Clinique La Prairie.

Cosmetic surgery at Clinique La Prairie - Avoid skin resection and scarring with laser lipo

The Center for Aesthetic Medicine at Clinique La Prairie in Montreux is a world-renowned center at the forefront of the field, so it’s not surprising that it is equipped with all the latest technology. This includes laser lipo, which is described here by Dr. Sabri Derder.

Message from the President Gregor Mattli - Clinique La Prairie continues to develop and advance.

The spirit, however, remains as it was at the beginning: to offer clientele high-quality medical care worthy of their complete confidence, in an extraordinary setting and level of comfort.

Weight management at Clinique La Prairie - A global, multidisciplinary approach.
Obesity is a risk or aggravating factor in several medical conditions. In its permanent fight against the effects of ageing and for the well-being of its patients, Clinique La Prairie assigns particular attention and importance to each surplus kilo. But here there is no succession of diets or yo-yoing. Excess weight is approached via a general vision and personalised programmes, employing a whole range of medical and paramedical disciplines, so that the results achieved last and endure over the months and years.

Specialist ear-nose-throat (ENT) consultation - To combat the effects of ageing more effectively.
Deafness, tinnitus, vertigo and swallowing disorders are all pathologies that can appear with age. At Clinique La Prairie, Dr. Georges Bambule, a specialist in ENT and cervico-facial surgery, diagnoses and treats patients using the most recent and effective techniques. Here is a general overview of the situation.

Clinique La Prairie still at the leading edge of progress - New surgical technique for hip replacements
Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Salvatore Rindone of the well known Clinique La Prairie, is one of the forerunners in Switzerland of a new technique called “Anterior Mini Invasive Surgery” or AMIS that is used for a total hip replacement (THR). He has used this technique 200 times at Clinique Prairie. This has earned him an international reputation and the prestigious title of “AMIS Instructor”.

Message from the President - The year that has just ended was rich in political and financial developments across the entire world.

At Clinique La Prairie, fortunately, it passed off calmly and serenely. And with several changes.

New specialist consultation - Diabetes and endocrinology

In 2008, Clinique La Prairie expanded its range of medical services by introducing a regular internal consultation in endocrinology and diabetology.

New services in a multidisciplinary - approach

The Centre for Aesthetic Medicine (CME) of Clinique La Prairie is entering the new year by further enriching its range of services. General survey.

New to the Centre for Aesthetic Medicine - Latest reconstructive and cosmetic breast surgery

A world leader in his field, one of the inventors of the technique of breast reconstruction by fat transplantation, Prof. Phillip Blondeel, has recently joined our Centre for Aesthetic Medicine (CME). Below he presents and explains the different types of intervention offered at Clinique La Prairie.

Sleep consultation - Insomnia, a complex pathology

No sleep means no life! And yet four out of ten people suffer from problems in this area. Insomnia is becoming one of the most widespread complaints. But it also remains one of the most neglected. At Clinique La Prairie, we are concerned about this and take it seriously.

Message from the Chairman

2007 was another vintage year for Clinique La Prairie, a time of changes, successes and innovations. Revitalisation, a major pillar of our establishment’s reputation for more than 75 years, has made further progress. The treatment has now entered a promising new era, full details of which can be found in this issue of Inside.

A health check-up opens the door

Whether they come from abroad, Switzerland or the surrounding region, most patients find their way to Clinique La Prairie without having been sent by a doctor. It is rather as if they were treating themselves to a relaxing stay or a thalassotherapy treatment. Their aim may be to receive preventive or revitalising treatment, to solve a sleeping disorder, or to get back in shape, having enjoyed an over indulgentlifestyle. Whatever the reason, Clinique La Prairie is first and foremost a renowned and ethical establishment which considers the welfare of its clients its most important priority.

A new discipline at Clinique La Prairie - Predictive medicine predicting, looking ahead and preventing

Thanks to recent progress made in the decoding of the human genome, predictive medicine makes it possible to analyse an individual’s predispositions and thereby draw up their genetic passport. This offers two major dividends: better disease prevention and increased effectiveness of medications.

Aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery - For a better quality of life
Due to the constantly evolving perception of aesthetic medicine in the public eye – not only in line with changing fashions, but also in people’s minds over the course of a lifetime – this special treatment occupies a privileged and somewhat special place at Clinique La Prairie among its very wide range of medical care, treatments and other specialities.

Relocation and modernisation of the radiology department - Cutting-edge medical imaging

Clinique La Prairie recently inaugurated its new radiology depart-ment. The department has undergone a complete overhaul and now benefits from the most recent technological developments.

Physiotherapy - Relearning your balancing act

Fending off balance disorders by optimising your coordination constitutes one of the physiotherapists’ main tasks at Clinique La Prairie. By listening to you, they can propose various programs geared to your needs.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) - A little-known and dangerous, but manageable condition

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is often poorly understood and mis-diagnosed, and can have serious effects on the patient’s health. However, it is possible to manage the condition with success even if treatment usually has to be continued for life. At Clinique La Prairie, the Pneumology Department as well
as the ENT Department take it very seriously.

Message from the President

To me, the year 2006 will be as memorable as that of an exceptional vintage, marking as it did my 30 years as owner of Clinique La Prairie and 75 years of our famous Revitalization program, started in 1931 by Professor Niehans and which has earned our establishment its worldwide reputation.

The Medical Centre transformed and refurbished

Fifteen years after its official opening in 1991, Clinique La Prairie’s Medical Centre is finally fully functional.

A medical speciality to prevent, diagnose and treat vascular diseases Angiology, a relatively unknown term for patients, is a medical speciality which has been added to the range of medical disciplines offered by Clinique La Prairie. It involves the treatment of vascular conditions, in other words, all diseases of the arterial, venous (varicose veins, thrombosis) and lymphatic systems.

Botox to combat excessive perspiration

Hyperhidrosis is excessive perspiration affecting one or more areas of the body. It can be very embarrassing, even incapacitating. A revolutionary new treatment involving Botox injections has finally been perfected. It is available at Clinique La Prairie.

De Quervain’s tenosynovitis

Named after the Swiss physician who first described the condition, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis affects the first extensor compartment of the hand. It frequently causes pain, and restricts the function of the wrist and thumb. However, effective treatments are  available.

Jean-Bernard Muraro takes over from Elfried Blaes at the head of the CLP culinary team

After twenty years of dietetic and gastronomic creations and achievements, Elfried Blaes has hung up her chef’s hat in the Clinique La Prairie kitchens to savour a well-earned retirement. Another great French professional, Jean-Bernard Murano, has the difficult task of following in her footsteps. An evolution rather than a revolution.
